A view from the
intern’s perspective isn’t something you’d expect to see, right? Well, here it
is. The real truth seen from my eyes right here behind my desk, but, so it’s
fair, you should know it’s only from Mondays through Wednesdays. The last two
days of the workweek is well, anyone’s guess. Call me unusual,
or a dork, but starting my Monday morning off here at Capsule is well the only
way I’d really like to. Sure, I could be sleeping or procrastinating on my
senior projects, but then I’d be missing out on a real-world experience that
will help transition me into my soon to be grown up life.
Everyday brings
something new and exciting to my attention and the opportunities to participate
on real client work are continuous. I’ve enjoyed the aspect of being apart of a
smaller organization, actually knowing everyone’s name, and being able to spin
my swivel chair around catching a glimpse of everyone is quite often unheard of.
I’ve learned that working life is better in this open collaborative space, it’s
full of energy and functionally and that working in a cubicle simply cannot
(and shouldn’t) exist.
And speaking of space, we currently sit in a temporary
one, anxiously awaiting for the new one right around the block to be Capsule’s
new home. I mean, at least that’s what they keep telling me.
I work with a bunch of smart and talented people who really are nothing but
genuine and hardworking. A lot of people outside of here assume that by the
nature of the work, my association with Capsule is purely because I’m some
gifted designer but unfortunately, I have not one ounce of design or artistic talent.
If you ask me to draw something or create something on the computer in
in-design, you’re simply asking for trouble. Thankfully, Capsule has a Design
Intern whose creative talents are endless and obvious, a skill I wish I could
trade for like a bologna sandwich for a PB& J at the lunch table.
Fortunately for
me, a role that aligns with my skills presented itself. I work closely with
Account Executives, A Research Guru, and a team that can write well and
articulate the needs clients are seeking. I’m so grateful to Capsule for allowing
me this opportunity to be a part of this close-knit bunch participating in
creative brainstorming and understanding the specifics of each account, things
that a textbook just can’t preach.
So what’s the
best part about Capsule? Sure having my very own Apple computer is cool, the
candy dish is always stocked and sometimes people even bring in treats. But
that aside, the experience, the insight, and the advice for an almost college
graduate is why I’d rather be here actually working towards it, rather than
dreaming about it.
