I'm sure many of you have already received the memo that Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates will be appearing in tandem for the Vista Ads, yes? And no surprise here, I've got a few thoughts on this. I'm happy to see the soon-to-be aired campaign that cost Microsoft a Daddy Warbuck's amount of $300 million (!) is being handled by CP+B. The lads in Miami have an outstanding record of handing out some impressive ads, think Mini Cooper, most of the Burger King stuff, and Geek Sqaud to name a few. However, their wrap sheet has led me to question the use of Hollywood personalities. Are they relying on stardom to project sales, and if so, huh? It just seems strange, is there no other way to tout Vista without endorsements? In addition to Senor Seinfeld, I've read reports stating Sarah Silverman, Willie Nelson, and Ralph Nadar may also be seen in pro-Vista spots. To be clear, the ads have not gone to air yet, so this rambling is all s-p-e-c-u-l-a-t-i-o-n. Another thought, do you think there were any egos fighting for space between the creatives and Seinfeld? I imagine he'd make a pretty sweet CD. Hm, I wonder if he'd find that insulting.
By the way, these questions and speculations will all be laid to rest when they ads begin to air September, 4, 2008, so stay tuned.
